Describe evidence without guessing from bites
Tell the assessor what you have seen, where it was found and when. Bed bugs can hide in mattress seams and furniture crevices, but a mark on skin alone does not identify the pest. Describe visible insects or marks on furniture separately and ask what evidence will help an inspection.
Get instructions before reorganizing the room
The preparation for an inspection may differ from preparation for treatment. Ask what should remain in place, which areas need access and how belongings should be handled. Mention heavy furniture or any access needs. Avoid moving the contents into another room simply to make the space look tidy.
Do not assume furniture must be discarded
NYC Health notes that furniture can often be treated and recommends disposal only when suitable options are unavailable or a pest professional advises it. Ask for an assessment before making that decision. If disposal is recommended, confirm the proper handling instructions for the item.
Agree how findings and follow-up will be shared
Ask what the inspection includes, whether a written record is available and how any treatment recommendation will be priced. In a shared building, clarify who should receive relevant findings. Keep preparation instructions and later observations together so the next conversation can refer to the same information.
